In addition to the weeklong exhibition\, a special ticketed Benefit Evening will be held on Thursday\, September 3\, from 6:00–8:30 PM in effort to support our inclusive arts programming. \nFor many of our artists\, opportunities like this are deeply meaningful. DESCRIPTION:When\nJuly 30\, 2025 – December 31\, 2025\n\n\nWhere\nHeadlands\, The Commons\n\n\nPrice\nFree\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreated by Rotterdam-based designer Chris Kabel\, Wall Space is a sculptural installation that turns Headlands’ building façade into a canvas for commissioned texts. Inspired by historical movie theater marquees\, a hidden armature on the side of the building holds metal mesh letters that respond to the changing light\, visible to viewers as cast shadows. The letters are reconfigured into a new poem several times a year. \nFor this iteration of Wall Space\, we are grateful to host the writing of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Forrest Gander. \nArtist Statement \nThere are long traditions of the pastoral\, poetry centered on nature or landscape\, in both Eastern and Western language literature. I’m less interested in “nature poetry”—where nature features as theme—than in poetry which investigates—both thematically and formally—the relationship between nature and culture\, language and perception. What we’ve perpetrated on our environment has certainly affected a poet’s means and material. My Wall Poem developed slowly in my mind during several ritual hikes—circumambulations—around nearby Mount Tamalpais. I hope the poem suggests\, in a way that doesn’t simply supplement the rational intellect\, but offers incommensurable modes of insight\, our mutualism with this revered and very particular place. \nFor years\, I’ve come to Headlands to see and celebrate art\, artists\, and the landscape. Aki Onda’s musical installation\, Dong Li’s reading of his poetry\, Joshua Michelle-Ross’s eco-choral performance\, and hikes around the Marin coastline have inspired me. \nWall Space Exhibition Opening (July 30\, 2026)\nThe evening begins at 6:00PM with drinks in our Mess Hall\, followed by a family-style supper at 6:30PM. Around 7:40PM\, we’ll gather outdoors in The Commons\, where Forrest Gander will be joined by composer and cellist Theresa Wong (AIR ‘09) and multi-disciplinary artist Ashwini Bhat to present Embrace\, a collaborative performance during the activation ceremony of the Wall Space commission. \nProgram:\n6PM – Event starts\n6:30PM –  Welcome remarks\n6:40PM – Dinner served\n7:40PM – Wall Space Activation Ceremony\n8PM –  Event concludes \nGuests will be invited to take a seed-ball with them to plant and germinate in their gardens. \nMore info here\nTickets are required for dinner. Join host Corey Rosen — veteran of The Moth\, creator of Simply Said at the Lark Theater\, and author of Your Story\, Well Told — for the exciting series of Word of Mouth\, a storytelling series at the Sausalito Center For The Arts. \nEach show brings together an enthusiastic audience of story lovers — some there to listen\, and others brave enough to take the stage. The stories are short (just 5 minutes)\, absolutely true\, and told without notes in the tradition of The Moth. \nHow it works: \nBefore the show begins\, anyone in the audience who has a story to tell can drop their name into a storytelling hat at the door. During the show\, 10 names will be randomly drawn\, and those lucky storytellers will take the stage to share their story on the evening’s theme. \nEach story is scored by a panel of audience judges based on how well it connects to the theme\, and the emotional or narrative impact it leaves. At the end of the night\, the highest-scoring teller will be crowned our Word of Mouth Champion — with all the glory\, bragging rights\, and applause that go with it. \nWhether you come to tell or just to listen\, you’ll leave inspired\, moved\, and maybe even laughing through tears. It’s not a performance. It’s not a contest (okay\, maybe a little). It’s a celebration of honesty\, humor\, and the simple magic of one human voice in a room full of others.

Inspired by historical movie theater marquees\, a hidden armature on the side of the building holds metal mesh letters that respond to the changing light\, visible to viewers as cast shadows. The letters are reconfigured into a new poem several times a year. \nFor this iteration of Wall Space\, we are grateful to host the writing of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Forrest Gander. \nArtist Statement \nThere are long traditions of the pastoral\, poetry centered on nature or landscape\, in both Eastern and Western language literature. I’m less interested in “nature poetry”—where nature features as theme—than in poetry which investigates—both thematically and formally—the relationship between nature and culture\, language and perception. What we’ve perpetrated on our environment has certainly affected a poet’s means and material. My Wall Poem developed slowly in my mind during several ritual hikes—circumambulations—around nearby Mount Tamalpais. I hope the poem suggests\, in a way that doesn’t simply supplement the rational intellect\, but offers incommensurable modes of insight\, our mutualism with this revered and very particular place. \nFor years\, I’ve come to Headlands to see and celebrate art\, artists\, and the landscape. DESCRIPTION:Imagine one day when our whole town comes together — neighbors\, service groups\, nonprofits\, faith communities\, and local businesses — to roll up our sleeves and collectively make an impact to the places and people we love. The “Make a Difference Day” Committee invites you to be part of Sausalito’s first annual “Make a Difference Day” on Saturday\, September 12\, 2026. \nWe’re planning a joyful\, action‑packed day: morning coffee and pastries\, a commemorative t‑shirt designed by a local artist\, hands‑on projects across town\, and an afternoon celebration with food and music to honor what we accomplish together. This is more than a day of work — it’s a chance to build friendships\, deepen civic pride\, and make visible\, lasting improvements to our community. \nLearn more \nHow can the Sausalito Clubs participate? \nVolunteer \n•  Lead a project for park cleanups\, garden work\, senior outreach\, city beautification (power washing\, trash can clean-up\, weeding\, etc)\, painting\, or fire safety projects. Parking cost is per hour\, and Parking Lot #3 (searchable on Maps) usually has the most space. “Sausalito Books by the Bay” at 100 Bay Street is a central address for parking. \nFor the closest parking\, take a right at 100 Bay Street and park in spaces 1113-1159 (within “Tour Bus Parking Lot“). \nOnce parked\, walk north towards The Spinnaker restaurant. You’ll soon come across a wooden boardwalk that leads to our dock (Slip 465). Look for the two red masts! \nIf you are lost\, search “Schooner Freda B” on any Maps app. Or\, see your ticket confirmation for the “boat phone” number to call. \nWhat to Wear \nSailing on the San Francisco Bay offers ever-changing views and exciting microclimates. Weather can change in a minute. Windbreaker\, warm base layer\, gloves\, hat\, scarf\, sunglasses\, and comfortable shoes are strongly encouraged. NO HIGH HEELS!! \n  \nRestroom \nFreda B has a restroom on board. The restroom is available one at a time. We do recommend using shore facilities (link) as a priority prior to sailing. \nTickets \nAdvanced reservation is required for all passengers\, including babes in arms. Passengers 17 and under must be accompanied and always supervised by an adult. All tickets must be purchased in advance\, and full contact information is required for all passengers. \nTickets are transferable up to 48 hours prior to sail. We sail in most weather\, including cold\, wind\, fog\, and light showers. On occasion\, we will need to reschedule a sail due to extreme wind or rain. DESCRIPTION:New Exhibit Opening: “Authors”\n \n“Authors” is a new exhibit by the Sausalito Historical Society highlighting the published works of  40 late Sausalito writers. \nThe collection includes poets\, novelists\, playwrights\, story tellers\, maritime adventurers\, academics\, biographers\, screenwriters\, cartoonists\, pundits – and in some cases – characters in their own right. \nOn view are author biographies\, quintessential quotes\, and copies of their publications. \nThe exhibit can be viewed on the top floor of City Hall in the Historical Society offices during these hours: \nMonday and Wednesday\n10 a.m. to 1 p.m. \n2nd and 4th Saturday of the Month\n12 p.m. to 3p.m. \nAn Opening Reception will be held on Friday April 10th at 6 p.m. on the top floor of City Hall in the Historical Society exhibit room. \nMany of the publications are available from the MARINet  county-wide lending library system\, https://marinet.bibliocommons.com/ \nWhile many of these works are out of print\, a few can be purchased from the Sausalito Historical Society and some are available online.

DESCRIPTION:When\nJuly 30\, 2025 – December 31\, 2025\n\n\nWhere\nHeadlands\, The Commons\n\n\nPrice\nFree\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreated by Rotterdam-based designer Chris Kabel\, Wall Space is a sculptural installation that turns Headlands’ building façade into a canvas for commissioned texts. Inspired by historical movie theater marquees\, a hidden armature on the side of the building holds metal mesh letters that respond to the changing light\, visible to viewers as cast shadows. The letters are reconfigured into a new poem several times a year. \nFor this iteration of Wall Space\, we are grateful to host the writing of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Forrest Gander. \nArtist Statement \nThere are long traditions of the pastoral\, poetry centered on nature or landscape\, in both Eastern and Western language literature. I’m less interested in “nature poetry”—where nature features as theme—than in poetry which investigates—both thematically and formally—the relationship between nature and culture\, language and perception. What we’ve perpetrated on our environment has certainly affected a poet’s means and material. My Wall Poem developed slowly in my mind during several ritual hikes—circumambulations—around nearby Mount Tamalpais. I hope the poem suggests\, in a way that doesn’t simply supplement the rational intellect\, but offers incommensurable modes of insight\, our mutualism with this revered and very particular place. \nFor years\, I’ve come to Headlands to see and celebrate art\, artists\, and the landscape. Aki Onda’s musical installation\, Dong Li’s reading of his poetry\, Joshua Michelle-Ross’s eco-choral performance\, and hikes around the Marin coastline have inspired me. \nWall Space Exhibition Opening (July 30\, 2026)\nThe evening begins at 6:00PM with drinks in our Mess Hall\, followed by a family-style supper at 6:30PM.
