SUMMARY:SCA: Open Inquiry: UC Arts
DESCRIPTION:Open Inquiry: UC Arts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpen Inquiry: UC Arts brings together a new generation of artists emerging from the renowned art practice programs at the University of California\, Los Angeles\, the University of California\, Berkeley\, and the University of California\, Davis. The art departments at these universities have long been recognized as seminal hubs of artistic experimentation and critical thought\, consistently incubating artists who leverage academic investigation with artistic rigor. This exhibition features current students and graduates from the last two decades\, whose innovative practices carry forward the artistic legacy of the UC arts. \nGrounded in the idea that research is not limited to laboratories or archives\, Open Inquiry frames artistic practice as a vital mode of inquiry. Through multi-disciplined\, critically engaged studio practices\, the exhibiting artists question\, test\, analyze\, and interpret—performing acts of research with their making processes. The art studio becomes a site for creative problem solving\, where painting\, sculpture\, installation\, performance\, and digital media operate as tools of critical inquiry. \nWhile support for arts funding and academic research faces mounting challenges\, Open Inquiry underscores the essential role of public arts education. Across the UC system\, art departments cultivate spaces for alternative learning rooted in material experimentation\, social justice work\, and personal exploration. Within these spaces\, artists embrace the creative process as a methodology for challenging dominant narratives or making visible that which is obscured or dismissed. \nOpen Inquiry asserts that now\, more than ever\, the graduates of the UC arts programs are creating essential work for an uncertain world. Their practices embody the values of intellectual and creative freedom\, reminding us of the crucial role of the arts within the broader landscape of higher education. The exhibition aims to center artists as researchers who challenge our expectations\, generate debate\, and lead us to vital discoveries. \nLearn More

SUMMARY:Sausalito Beautiful: Green Thumbs
DESCRIPTION:– Saturday\, March 14 \, 9:30am-12pm – Langendorf\n– Saturday\, March 21\, 9am-12pm – 2nd Street Stairs\n– Saturday\, April 11\, 9:30am-12pm – Sausalito Post Office \nCitizen volunteers who roll up their sleeves and put on their gloves have made big improvements in Sausalito’s public green spaces. Once a month the Green Thumbs team of volunteers weed\, trim\, plant\, and/or mulch at a pre-selected site. Once a year\, we make an extra effort to bring out lots of people for a special Beautification Day. This program is headed by Jim Scriba and coordinated with Sausalito’s Parks & Recreation Department and Department of Public Works. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease join us for these fun and rewarding Green Thumbs Saturdays! We typically meet from 9:30am until noon on the first Saturday morning of the month (except during the winter)\, working together out in the fresh air.  Participants meet new neighbors and see old friends\, all the while having the satisfaction of beautifying our community. \nThe Green Thumbs team has worked at many locations throughout the city including Vina del Mar Plaza\,  the landscaped strip on Bridgeway between Taste of Rome and the Ice House Visitor’s Center\, the bus shelter and adjoining mini-park at Easterby Street\, Tiffany Park on south Bridgeway\, and the Sausalito Post Office. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Green Thumbs Team!\n\nAll ages and abilities are welcome—and you don’t even need to have a green thumb! \nJoin the team by signing up as a Volunteer\, being sure to check “Yes\, Sign me up for Green Thumbs” on the Volunteer Registration. You will then receive emails notifying you of the time and place each month. \n\nVolunteer

SUMMARY:Sausalito Village: Weekly Poetry
DESCRIPTION:Ongoing Poetry Group\n\n\nSV volunteer and member\, Lucinda Watson\, facilitates a weekly poetry writing group hosted by Sausalito Village. The group meets weekly for one hour on Zoom\, with the purpose of writing\, sharing\, and deepening our engagement with poetry. \nLucinda brings years of experience and is listed in Poets & Writers. Her 2021 Poetry Collection was published by Golden Antelope Press and she holds a master’s degree in writing. Her vision is to create a space that is focused\, inspiring\, and fully centered on poetry—rather than small talk. \nEach week\, members will have the opportunity to read their work aloud and request the type of feedback they prefer: either constructive/critical or positive-only\, depending on comfort level and personal goals. This approach makes the group welcoming to both beginning poets and those with more experience. \nRSVP for the recurring Zoom link. \nEvent calendar: https://sausalito.helpfulvillage.com/events?neighborhood=SV
